11 K-dramas Premiering This October

If you are an avid K-drama addict like me then you’ll be happy to know of new K-dramas coming out this October. The premise of new K-dramas; male characters to trip for, female characters to cheer for, sticky situations that our main couple have to overcome. If you’re like me, it’s an opportunity to trip over The Second Male Lead (yes, I have Second Male Lead Syndrome. Sue me). So, with no further ado, here they are:

My Dangerous Wife

“My Dangerous Wife” is about a couple who married for love but struggles to keep their marriage alive. Choi Won Young plays Kim Yoon Cheol, while Kim Jung Eun stars as Shim Jae Kyung. Shim Jae Kyung is deemed the “perfect wife” who is beautiful, intelligent, kind, and wealthy, but she becomes involved in a mysterious kidnapping incident one day.

“Tale of the Nine-Tailed” is about a male gumiho (a mythical nine-tailed fox) named Yi Yeon (Lee Dong Wook) who has settled in the city, and the fearless producing director named Nam Ji Ah (Jo Bo Ah) who is determined to track him down. Kim Bum plays Yi Rang, Yi Yeon’s half-brother and the child of a human and a gumiho.

“Do Do Sol Sol La La Sol” is a romantic comedy that tells the story of energetic pianist Goo La La (Go Ara) and expert part-timer Sun Woo Joon (Lee Jae Wook). They gather at a piano academy called “La La Land” in a small countryside village with secrets and scars that they are hiding. 

“Private Lives”

Taking place during the current age in which people share, steal, and fabricate their private lives, this drama is about con artists mobilizing all their techniques to disclose the nation’s major “private life.” Cha Joo Eun (Seohyun), Jung Bok Gi (Kim Hyo Jin), and Kim Jae Wook (Kim Young Min) are con artists, while Lee Jung Hwan (Go Kyung Pyo) is a mysterious team manager at a major company.

SF8” – “Empty Body”

Set in the near future, “SF8” is a sci-fi anthology series about people who dream of a perfect society through technological advancements, and “Empty Body” is the final episode of the series. “Empty Body” is about a son (Jang Yoo Sang) who is revived through artificial intelligence by his mother (Moon So Ri) and tries to prove to her that he is human.

“Start-Up” takes place in South Korea’s fictional Silicon Valley named Sandbox and is about people in the world of startup companies. Suzy stars as Seo Dal Mi, who dreams of becoming Korea’s Steve Jobs, and Nam Joo Hyuk stars as Nam Do San, the founder of Samsan Tech. Kim Seon Ho plays Han Ji Pyung, a team leader at SH Venture Capital, and Kang Han Na plays Won In Jae, a CEO and second-generation chaebol.

“Search” is a mystery thriller about a specialized search party that sets out to uncover the truth behind mysterious disappearances and deaths that take place in the demilitarized zone (DMZ). Jang Dong Yoon will star as Yoon Dong Jin, a military dog handler and sergeant who is almost done with his mandatory military service when he is suddenly assigned to the search party. Krystal will play Son Ye Rim, a highly intelligent and capable lieutenant who joins the investigation team as a special officer.

“The Spies Who Loved Me”

“The Spies Who Loved Me” is a suspenseful romantic comedy about a woman who inadvertently gets caught up in the world of espionage. Yoo In Na will star as Kang Ah Reum, a wedding dress designer who has been married twice, and her two husbands both harbor many secrets. Eric will star as Kang Ah Reum’s first husband Jun Ji Hoon, a charming and unpredictable secret agent who works for Interpol. Im Joo Hwan plays her current husband, who is a corporate spy. 

“Phoenix 2020”

A remake of the popular MBC drama “Phoenix” from 2004, “Phoenix 2020” tells the story of a rich woman and poor man who get married out of love but then get divorced. They then reunite later after their situations have completely reversed.

“Kairos”

“Kairos” is a time-crossing fantasy thriller about the interconnected fates of Kim Seo Jin (Shin Sung Rok), a man who falls into despair after his daughter is kidnapped, and Han Ae Ri (Lee Se Young), a woman who is searching for her missing mother. From Kim Seo Jin’s perspective, Han Ae Ri is living exactly one month in the past—but after the two miraculously communicate from their different times, they set out on a quest to save their missing loved ones.

“Penthouse” tells the story of a woman who strives to achieve her goal of entering high society by becoming the “queen” in the 100th floor penthouse in Gangnam, the pinnacle of success in her eyes, as well as women who had no choice but to become villains in order to protect themselves. The drama is written by Kim Soon Ok and directed by Joo Dong Min, who previously worked together on “The Last Empress.”

“Get Revenge” is described as a “mystery social revenge drama” in which Kang Hae Ra (Kim Sa Rang), who went from a reporter to one of Korea’s hottest influencers after marrying a public figure, is given the opportunity to get her revenge and fight against powerful people in society. Yoon Hyun Min plays Cha Min Joon, a cold lawyer who has a 100 percent success rate. The drama will be led by screenwriter Kim Hyo Jin and “Itaewon Class” director Kang Min Gu.

“Please Don’t Meet Him” is about Seo Ji Sung (Song Ha Yoon) who wants to fall in love but also avoid the wrong men. In order to create the perfect love life, she creates an artificial intelligence (AI) program called Cho Sang Shin, which will identify trashy humans, and she uses it to save people who are in difficult relationships. Jun plays Jung Kook Hee, a firefighter who is the one and only person that Cho Sang Shin is unable to analyze.
